In light of these findings, autoalgometry can be proposed as an objective measure of pressure pain threshold for clinical and research use.

Measuring a pressure pain threshold (PPT) is commonly adopted to try to quantify this sensation. The PPT is currently defined as "the minimum necessary intensity of a nociceptive signal, derived from a pressure stimulus, to be perceived as painful [3] ."
