Nancy Wigginton (6 November 1925 – 11 May 2019), known professionally as Nan Winton, was a British broadcaster, best known for being the first female newsreader to read the national news on BBC television.

Nan Winton. Broadcaster. 1 January 1925 to 11 May 2019. A British broadcaster who became the first woman to read the national television evening news on the BBC in June 1960, Winton was dropped from the role twice over the course of the next year without explanation.
When Nan Winton joined the BBC news team in 1960, becoming as she did so the first woman to read the evening bulletin on BBC television, it looked like a victory for equality.
