Mona Hammond OBE (born Mavis Chin; 1 January 1931 – 4 July 2022) was a Jamaican-British actress and co-founder of the Talawa Theatre Company. Born in Tweedside, Jamaica, [1] Hammond immigrated to the United Kingdom in 1959, where she lived for the rest of her life.
Mona Hammond (1931-2022) was a British-Jamaican actress who appeared in TV shows such as EastEnders and The Archers, and in films such as 10,000 BC and Coriolanus. She also co-founded the Talawa Theatre Group and received an O.B.E. for services to drama.

She came to Britain in 1959 on a scholarship to work with an architects firm but was soon involved in black theatre productions with contemporaries such as Lloyd and Barry Reckord and Charles Hyatt, under the name Mona Chin.
