Infested marines are units nearly identical to the infested terran. They may be spawned by infested colonist huts at a time cost of 2. They are distinguished as infested marines in-game to distinguish them from their unarmed infested colonist counterparts. Their portrait is a reward.
The infested terran is a unit in StarCraft II created by an infestor. It is often referred to as the infested marine. It was removed from Versus in Patch 4.11. A similarly-themed melee weaker with lower stats, the infested terran or "infested colonist" appears in campaigns and Co-op Missions.
The Infested Marine can be found in some of the campaign missions, most notably in Outbreak. They are stronger support for Infested Terrans and first unit the offers significant threat to player's army.
Infested terrans have appeared in StarCraft II as units produced by the infestor. The original suicide bomber concept was replaced in gameplay by the baneling. In the singleplayer, infested terrans were effectively divided between infested colonists and infested marines.
The issue was that the infestor as a whole had an answer for any opposing unit or composition and lots of self-synergy between its abilities meaning the optimal lategame army basically consisted of mass infestors and some air support.
