Das Schloss war von 1740 bis 1797 die Sommerresidenz der preußischen Königin Elisabeth Christine. Die Gemahlin Friedrichs des Großen prägte den Ort maßgeblich, den sie mehr als 50 Jahre lang bewohnte. Herausragend sind die in weiten Teilen noch erhaltenen Raumausstattungen des späten 17. und des 18. Jahrhunderts.
