The Rusty-spotted Cat Working Group (RSCWG) is a global network dedicated to the protection of the planet’s smallest wild cat: the Rusty-spotted cat. Distributed in the regions of Nepal, India and Sri Lanka, this little cat is confronted with threats such as poisoning and road kills.
This rare cat has short, brownish gray fur tinged with a rufous color. The face is marked with two dark streaks on each cheek and four dark stripes extending from above the eyes backward between the ears and to the shoulders.
In many developed countries you must obtain a licence to own a wild cat, however this is not the case for the majority of the world, and wild cats, like the Rusty– spotted cat, are reasonably easy to purchase. Sadly it is likely that some of these wild cats are trapped directly from wild populations.
17 de nov. de 2023 · Owning a rusty spotted cat comes with additional costs beyond the initial purchase price. These costs include a specialized diet, creating an environment that mimics their natural habitat, regular veterinary care, vaccinations, and parasite prevention.
Rusty-spotted cats have always been considered rare, but recent observations suggest they are more common than previously thought. Given their tiny size and ability to control rodents, they can survive if not persecuted by man.
