Honnō-ji (本能寺) is a temple of the Nichiren branch of Buddhism located in Kyoto, Japan . Honnō-ji incident. Honnō-ji is most famous for the Honnō-ji incident – the assassination of Oda Nobunaga – that occurred there on 21 June 1582.

The Honnō-ji Incident (本能寺の変, Honnō-ji no Hen) was the assassination of Japanese daimyo Oda Nobunaga at Honnō-ji temple in Kyoto on 21 June 1582 (2nd day of the sixth month, Tenshō 10). Nobunaga was on the verge of unifying the country, but died in the unexpected rebellion of his vassal, Akechi Mitsuhide .
Founded in 1415. Nichiren sect temple. Honnoji Temple is best known for being the place where the warlord Oda Nobunaga met his end. He was attacked at the temple in 1582 by one of his trusted generals, Akechi Mitsuhide, and then forced to commit ritual suicide.
7 de may. de 2014 · Today’s Honno-ji is downtown, surrounded by modern buildings. It is just a 2-minute-walk from the Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae subway station. The main hall is open to the public and you can move around the inside freely, but please remember to show a quiet respect for the Buddhist altar.
