The Clydesdale is a Scottish breed of draught horse. It takes its name from Clydesdale , a region of Scotland centred on the River Clyde . The origins of the breed lie in the seventeenth century, when Flemish stallions were imported to Scotland and mated with local mares; in the nineteenth century, Shire blood was introduced.

18 de oct. de 2022 · Clydesdales are among the tallest horse breeds, standing between 16 hands (64 inches) and 18 hands (72 inches) on average. Their imposing height is matched by their weight, which tops 1,600 pounds. The stallions often stand taller and weigh more than the mares.
Three years later Clydesdale horses were conscripted by the army to serve in The First World War. It is known that between 1850 and 1880 a large number of the best stallions and a few good quality mares were annually exported mainly to Australia and New Zealand.
Clydesdales are powerful draught horses that look impressive when driven as a team, such as the world famous Budweiser Clydesdales. Clydesdale horses were developed in the early 1700’s by the 6th Duke of Hamilton, a Scottish peer which controlled the district of Clydesdale, now known as Lanarkshire near the river Clyde.
