Edward William May Jr. (November 10, 1916 – January 22, 2004) was an American composer, arranger and trumpeter. He composed film and television music for The Green Hornet (1966), The Mod Squad (1968), Batman (with Batgirl theme, 1967), [1] and Naked City (1960).

Billy May, born Edward William May Jr in Pittsburgh, was a trumpeter and arranger, initially for the bands of saxophonist Charlie Barnet (1938–40) and trombonist Glenn Miller (1940–2). His arrangement of Ray Noble’s tune ‘Cherokee’ became a major hit for Barnet and was adopted as his band’s signature tune.
Billy May was a fun loving trumpeter who arranged some of the best-loved music of the Big Band Era! His humor and musical talents provided hit recordings for Glenn Miller, Charlie Barnet and Frank Sinatra, to name but three.
