Flag of Singapore. The flag of Singapore was adopted in 1959, the year Singapore became self-governing within the British Empire. It remained the national flag upon the country's independence from Malaysia on 9 August 1965.
In addition to its national flag, Singapore has special ensigns used for private, government, and military vessels. All incorporate the crescent and five stars as well as the national colours, red and white.
The flag of Singapore, which has been adopted together with the national emblem and anthem in 1959, is composed of red and white horizontal stripes. On the left side of the upper red stripe, symbols of a white crescent and five five-pointed stars representing democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality are placed.
The National Flag of Singapore features two equal horizontal bands of red (top) and white, where on the hoist side of the red stripe is a vertical, white-colored crescent moon that faces the flag’s fly side; the country uses the Singapore dollar as its official currency; and its national anthem is Majulah Singapura ("Onward Singapore")

El diseño actual del estandarte está vigente desde 1965, tras la separación de Singapur de la Federación de Malasia.
