  1. An unsettling conclusion from the series finale. Suicide's motivation is usually some kind of dissatisfaction with identity/existence with the goal of escaping it. Beautiful or not, calm or not, going through the door is equivalent to suicide, which means that it is suicide. So I think The Good Place glorified it .

The line about the waves and the ocean really hit me. In this past year, my fiance passed and my best friend committed suicide, and this show has been helping me a lot.

  3. When they got into the hot air balloon, I thought well that’s probably it, I’d like to see the REAL Good Place but I suspect that will be left a mystery. Then second to last episode I actually thought was the end for sure. The end of that episode is actually a good finale on its own, everything gets wrapped up pretty well.

  4. The thing is, once I get some free time, I end up wasting it rather than doing something useful with it. Then I feel more depressed, and useless and the cycle continues. That's what I feel like the good place was - there was no one to help, no world to make better. So everything you do is fun, but utterly meaningless.

  5. The finale makes this show so bleak and depressing. [spoiler] I don’t think it’s about suicide. The whole point of the door is to address the question that “eternity” is not a particularly viable option in an afterlife, as how can you be in eternal bliss and still maintain happiness for eternity.

  6. But...the big ending is to have them all (and I really just mean Eleanor), effectively commit suicide? They called it a sense of completeness and to let it all go, after tiring of perpetual bliss. Lose "evil"/the bad place, and suddenly the good place becomes so boring, not existing is the preferred alternative? This is stunning to me.

The good place as depicted in Patty is like being in a 5 star resort with all the waiters waiting at your beck and call. it is kind of obvious that you would eventually get bored and turn into a joyless zombie.
