For SH2 there's articles covering some murder cases and name references that SH4 explain in more detail and game's protagonist is related to one of NPC's in SH4. And that's mostly it. No need to play SH2 for references.

All the more known AVs like BitDefender, Eset, Kaspersky, Malwarebytes, McAfee and Microsoft don't detect the exe file as malicious.
