They are lead from the front by the visionary guitarist Ygarr Ygarrist (pronounced “Why-Garr Why-Garr-ist”; real name Stephen Della Bosca) and the band’s frontman, ‘mime/robot’ and son of a Kentucky miner Zory Zenith (born George William Myers).
Ygarrist and Zatovian met singer Zory Zenith at Rodney's English Disco. Zenith was the former drummer for the Los Angeles rock band Shady Lady. Zenith not only sang in Zolar X, but performed intricate mime routines onstage.
The band became known on the LA club scene for dressing and acting like space aliens, including speaking a language of their own invention. Zolar X is currently Stephen Della Bosca (aka Ygarr Ygarrist), Billy Myers (aka Zory Zenith, Billy McCartney), Raidia Visual-X, Jeff Porter (aka Jett Starsystems), Pattern Timest TBA.
The songs on X Marks the Spot were written after a 17-year void of composing. Zory Zenith, my co-writer, was in prison on a ten year stretch. Thinking my well had run dry, I was amazed in 2003 when I wrote Astro Tots.

In fact, even before the band, the enterprising Zenith enjoyed a brief period of notoriety around LA as “Billy McCartney, cousin of Paul.”
