The National Defence College, located in New Delhi, is the defence service training institute and highest seat of strategic learning for officers of the Defence Service and the Civil Services.
The role of the college has remained largely unchanged since 1959, when the President of India sanctioned the setting up of a National Defence College for providing instruction to senior service and civil service officers in the wider aspects of higher direction and strategy of warfare.
The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the joint defence service training institute of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force train together before they go on to their respective service academy for further pre-commission training.

The college runs a 47 week uniquely designed course on “National Security & Strategic Studies” for 100 course members, of whom 25 are from friendly foreign countries.
