Jones joined a band called the Lower Third in early 1965, [8] the band included Denis "Tea-Cup" Taylor on lead guitar, Graham Rivens on bass guitar and Les Mighall on drums. Mighall later left the band and was replaced by Phil Lancaster. The band fell apart later that year. [9] .
