The Nuer people are a Nilotic ethnic group concentrated in the Greater Upper Nile region of South Sudan. They also live in the Ethiopian region of Gambella. The Nuer speak the Nuer language, which belongs to the Nilotic language family.

28 de mar. de 2021 · The Nuer are said to have emerged as a branch of the Dinka people who migrated south from the Gezira into a barren dry land known as “Kwer Kwong” in southern Kordofan. Centuries of separation and influence from Luo peoples culminated in them becoming an ethnic group different from the Dinka.
The Nuer, a tall and very dark people, are related to the Dinka, who live to their west, and their culture is very similar. The Nuer call themselves Naath, meaning "human beings." The Nuer, Dinka and Atwot (Atuot) are sometimes considered one ethnic group.
