Historically, Shoegaze has british roots in BVL or Ride, while Dream Pop is the american influenced branch with Slowdive and others. Philosophically, Shoegaze is more abrasive and noisier and thus, more 'expressive', while Dream Pop is mostly about beauty and harmony.
