Badlands National Park (Lakota: Makȟóšiča) is an American national park in southwestern South Dakota. The park protects 242,756 acres (379.3 sq mi; 982.4 km 2) of sharply eroded buttes and pinnacles, along with the largest undisturbed mixed grass prairie in the United States.

Badlands National Park is an underrated gem in the US national park system. Easy to visit and fun to explore, this park is well worth a day or two of your time. The colorful badlands are filled with zebra-striped buttes and spires that create one of the most photogenic landscapes in the USA.
With so much natural beauty to explore and wildlife to spot over its 244,000 acres, Badlands National Park has visitors all year long, though it is busiest in summer. The park is open 24 hours a day, with a higher volume of people visiting at midday.
