Vijay Iyer ([ˌvɪdʒeɪ ˈaɪjər]; born October 26, 1971) is an American composer, pianist, bandleader, producer and writer based in New York City. The New York Times has called him a "social conscience, multimedia collaborator, system builder, rhapsodist, historical thinker and multicultural gateway".
Vijay Iyer is a composer-pianist, MacArthur Fellow, and Harvard professor with a joint appointment in Music and African and African American Studies. He has released two dozen albums, collaborated with diverse artists, and written on music theory, improvisation, and cognition.
