10 de feb. de 2007 · It all works, in part because of the skill of his first-rate band--Mark Helias on bass, Tom Rainey on drums. There are some brilliantly complex tunes here: try "Tough Customer", a 7/4 tune which gradually unfolds into a pell-mell "Giant Steps"-style cooker.

Nabatov made his name with a series of inventive trio albums with Mark Helias and Tom Rainey; he also often works with the trombonist Nils Wogram in duet or in larger ensembles. His most important work so far, however, has been a series of albums on Leo devoted to jazz tone-poem responses to Russian authors.
