Peep Show's ratings have, to date, remained modest at best. In fact in early 2006 it looked like the show was heading for the axe when Channel 4 announced they were disappointed with the ratings of the third series.

David Mitchell explains: "That makes it sound like it's a sitcom about an actual peep show." The show's first sponsor, Kenco, made that mistake. The writers finally got their revenge in the first episode of the final series, in which Mark says: "I'll just go and get a cup of the Kenco".

First developed as a kind of live-action Beavis and Butt-Head , where two graduates would trade sarky observations about TV shows, its inner monologues and POV perspective struck many as a gimmick cooked up by TV execs.
