John Basilone was a US Marine Corps gunnery sergeant who fought in World War II and received the Medal of Honor for his actions at Guadalcanal and the Navy Cross for his actions at Iwo Jima. He was the only enlisted Marine to receive both decorations and was killed in action at Iwo Jima in 1945.
