In a career spanning more than 50 years, Spedding is best known for his studio session work. By the early 1970s, he had become one of the most sought-after session guitarists in England.

After Gordon and Spedding recorded their second album together, 1980’s Bad Boy, Danny Gatton stepped into the lead-guitar spot for 1981’s Are You Gonna Be the One. (Gatton also centers a storied Gordon bootleg later titled after the guitar great’s nickname, “The Humbler.”)
