The concert was held at the Rainbow Theatre in Finsbury Park, north London, on 13 January 1973. The venue was popular during the 1960s and early 1970s; musicians such as The Beatles, The Who, Genesis, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and Queen performed there.

In January 1973, he performed in Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert, and he reunited with Roger Chapman and Charlie Whitney when the duo recorded an album in 1974 after Family's breakup. Grech was one of many special guests on that record, which led Chapman and Whitney to form the group Streetwalkers . [1]

The concert was part of “Fanfare For Europe” celebrating Great Britain’s entry into the Common Market. It was organized by Eric Clapton’s friend, Pete Townshend, and Lord Harlech (father of EC’s girlfriend, Alice Ormsby-Gore) to bring Eric back into the public arena as a working musician and give him incentive to quit his drug habit.
