Wesley Branch Rickey Jr. (January 31, 1914 – April 10, 1961) was an American front office executive in Major League Baseball.
Wesley Branch Rickey (December 20, 1881 – December 9, 1965) was an American baseball player and sports executive. Rickey was instrumental in breaking Major League Baseball's color barrier by signing black player Jackie Robinson.
4 de ene. de 2012 · In 1911, nearing age thirty, Branch Rickey graduated from law school and chose Boise, Idaho, as the site of his law office. He was, by his own accounts, a miserable failure, gaining one client, who did not even want a lawyer.

In a career that spanned multiple generations and multiple revolutionary changes in baseball, Branch Rickey was always looking to innovate. A conservative and religious man who notably refused to participate in Sunday ball games as a player and a manager, Rickey was anything but traditional in the way he approached baseball as an executive.
Instead, during his junior and senior years, Rickey coached the Ohio Wesleyan baseball team to a winning record. After graduating in 1904, Rickey spent two years teaching and coaching at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania.
