Mayhem's guitarist, Euronymous (who took this photo), took bits of Dead's skull and made them into necklaces for members of the black metal scene, including the band's drummer Hellhammer. Necrobutcher, the band's bassist, was so disgusted with Euronymous' actions that he left Mayhem.

Basically, the band had gone out to town the day Dead decided to blow his brains out. Euronymous returned home early, but had lost his keys so he had to climb in through the bathroom window. It was then that he discovered Dead, dead.

Per Yngve "Pelle" Ohlin (16 January 1969 – 8 April 1991), better known by his stage name Dead, was a Swedish musician who was best known as the lead vocalist and lyricist of the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem from 1988 until his death in 1991.
Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth, guitarist for the notorious band Mayhem, stumbled upon a grim scene: the lifeless body of his bandmate and vocalist, Per “Dead” Ohlin. But instead of immediately calling for help, Euronymous took a detour that still raises eyebrows to this day.
20 de ene. de 2024 · The album cover features a disturbing image of the band’s vocalist, Per Yngve Ohlin, also known as “Dead”, who tragically took his own life in April 1991. The photograph, taken by Mayhem’s guitarist, Øystein Aarseth (aka Euronymous), depicted Dead’s lifeless body with slit wrists and a gunshot wound to the head.
