Paul Samwell-Smith. Paul Granville Samwell-Smith (born Paul G. Smith, 8 May 1943, in Brentford, West London, England) [1] is an English musician and record producer. He was a founding member and the bassist of the 1960s English rock band the Yardbirds, which launched leading guitarists Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page to fame.

The Yardbirds are an iconic British rock band, formed in London in 1963. Noted for their exploration of blues, rhythm and blues, and rock music, the group consisted of Keith Relf on vocals and harmonica, Paul Samwell-Smith on bass, Chris Dreja on rhythm guitar and later bass when Samwell-Smith left the band, and Jim McCarty on drums.
