Freddie Green. Frederick William Green (March 31, 1911 – March 1, 1987) was an American swing jazz guitarist who played rhythm guitar with the Count Basie Orchestra for almost fifty years.

Freddie Green was the guitarist in what is generally considered to be the best rhythm section in the history of big band jazz, and dubbed the All-American Rhythm Section, which featured Count Basie, bassist Walter Page, and drummer Jo Jones. Green continued with the band until 1987.

Green nació en Charleston, Carolina del Sur el 31 de marzo de 1911. Estuvo expuesto a la música desde una edad temprana y aprendió el banjo antes de tocar la guitarra en su juventud. Un amigo de su padre llamado Sam Walker le enseñó a leer música y le animó a seguir tocando la guitarra.
