Laffing Sal is one of several animatronic characters that were built primarily to attract carnival and amusement park patrons to funhouses and dark rides throughout the United States. [1] . When Sam first walks into the comic book shop, a rare Laffing Sal can be seen (and heard) behind him. There was no Laffing Sal at the comic book shop when I visited in 2007, however, a different one can currently be found on the boardwalk, near Neptune's Kingdom.
