Committed teachers are characterized by four qualities: having a desire to be good teachers, being more fact purveyors and sources, recognizing and accepting individual worth, and meeting professional responsibilities.
Drawn from hermeneutic phenomenology based on different life stories, the study proposed a PP-informed model of language teacher commitment with motivation, meaning, and perseverance as the three key components that interact with each other to jointly shape teachers’ professional commitment.
In the current study, commitment to teaching refers to student teachers’ positive emotions towards the teaching profession, and their willingness to enter the profession and to give their time and energy to teaching: thus, the objects of commitment we imply are the teaching profession, students, and teaching subjects.
