Gerald Robert Vizenor (born 1934) is an American writer and scholar, and an enrolled member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe, White Earth Reservation. Vizenor also taught for many years at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was Director of Native American Studies.
The author of more than 30 books of nonfiction, fiction, and poetry, Vizenor attended college on the GI Bill after serving in the armed forces for three years, mostly in Japan. He studied at New York University and did postgraduate work at Harvard University and the University of Minnesota.
Gerald Vizenor is Professor of American Studies at the University of New Mexico, and Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley. He was born in Minneapolis, MN in 1934. He is an enrolled member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe, White Earth Reservation.
Gerald Vizenor is a prolific writer and literary critic. In his career, he has written over 40 books in a variety of genres, including 12 novels and innumerable essays. He is a member of the White Earth Nation of the Anishinaabe in Minnesota and is Professor Emeritus at University of California, Berkeley.
