Catherine Suckling (9 May 1725 – 26 December 1767) was the mother of Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson. Catherine had eleven children of which Nelson was the third surviving son.
During his time at Beccles, Nelson met Catherine Suckling, and married her on 11 May 1749 at Beccles. Catherine was the daughter of another priest, Maurice Suckling, and her grandmother had been the sister of Robert Walpole.

When Catherine Suckling was born on 9 May 1725, in Barsham, Suffolk, England, her father, Rev. Maurice Suckling D.D., was 48 and her mother, Mary Anne Turner, was 32. She married Rev Edmund Nelson on 11 May 1749, in Norwich, Norfolk, England.

Background. Catherine was born on 9 May 1725 in Barsham, the oldest child and only daughter of the Reverend Doctor Maurice Suckling, the rector of Barsham and Woodton, and a prebendary of Westminster. Her father died when Catherine was five, and her mother Ann took the family to live at Beccles.
19 January 2021. On 29th September 1758, Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson was born to Reverend Edmund Nelson and Catherine Suckling, in a rectory at Burnham Thorpe, Norfolk. He was the middle son of a family of five boys and three girls. His father Edmund was a rector of the parish church All Saints.
