Richard Donald Marles (born 13 July 1967) is an Australian politician and lawyer serving as the 19th and current deputy prime minister of Australia and the Minister for Defence since May 2022.

Biography. Parliamentary service. Elected to the House of Representatives for Corio, Victoria, 2007. Re-elected 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2022. Ministerial appointments. Parliamentary Secretary for Innovation and Industry from 9.6.2009 to 14.9.2010. Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Island Affairs from 14.9.2010 to 22.3.2013.
