John Chiang (born July 31, 1962) is an American politician who served as the 33rd Treasurer of California from 2015 to 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as the 31st Controller of California from 2007 to 2015 and on the California State Board of Equalization from 1997 to 2007.
Research Description. John Chiang's research focuses on the climate dynamics of the large-scale atmosphere and its interactions with the ocean and land systems. He is specifically interested in the role that the tropics climate play in the climate system, how it interacts with the extratropical climate, and how it responds to climate forcing.

From 2015-2019, John Chiang served as California’s 33rd State Treasurer. As the state’s banker, he oversaw trillions of dollars in annual transactions, managed a $75 billion investment portfolio, and was the nation’s largest issuer of municipal bonds.
