Sir William Jones FRS FRAS FRSE (28 September 1746 – 27 April 1794) was a British philologist, orientalist and a puisne judge on the Supreme Court of Judicature at Fort William in Bengal, and a scholar of ancient India.

Jones senior opened a portrait studio in Hoquiam while Bliss, at the age of 22, bought an Aberdeen commercial and photofinishing studio in 1914. Thus began the Jones family photographic dynasty. Bliss' son, William D. "Bill" Jones carried the business into the 21st century.
