Focused on guiding children as they grow into creative and compassionate lifelong learners, a true Montessori education begins at age three. Dr. Maria Montessori established her child-centered Montessori philosophy in early-1900s Rome. “Adults move because their will directs them,” she explained.
MacDowell Montessori School promotes concentration, practical life, and problem-solving skills as students apply knowledge in all subjects. At the K-8 level, classrooms are multi-age, combining the ages of 3–6, 6–9, 9-12, and 12–14.
At MacDowell Montessori School, we are focused on our students’ personal and social well-being along with their academic success. We work with our community partners to support our students in the classroom and beyond.
MPS offers the nation’s largest cluster of public Montessori schools; our eight tuition-free Montessori schools enroll more than 4,000 students annually. MacDowell Montessori is the only public K–12 Montessori school in the nation, and Riley Dual Language Montessori School is the only public English/Spanish Montessori program in the region.
