The group formerly known as The Charlemagnes took on the name "The Blue Notes" in 1954, with a line-up consisting of lead singer Franklin Peaker, Bernard Williams, Roosevelt Brodie, Jesse Gillis, Jr., and Harold Melvin.
Gillis Jr., Jesse. He was a singer who began singing doo-wop in the 1950s with Harold Melvin when he had a group called The Charlemagnes. The Charlemagnes became The Blue Notes in 1954 and Jesse is known to have been in the original line-up.

11 de mar. de 2021 · What is agreed is that in 1954 Harold Melvin joined Franklin Peaker, Bernard Williams, Roosevelt Brodie and Jesse Gillis, Jr (collectively once known as the Charlemagnes) and formed his Blue Notes and for reasons never best explained put his name front out even though he wasn’t the lead singer.
The Bluenotes, at that time, were a quintet with the other band members being Bernard Williams, Roosevelt Brodie, Jesse Gillis Jr., and Franklin Peaker. Their first single, 'If You Love Me' was recorded for the Josie imprint in 1956.
