The Very Best of Prince is a greatest hits album by American recording artist Prince. It was released on July 31, 2001, by Warner Bros. Records. The album contains most of his commercially successful singles from 1979 to 1991 including the US number 1s "When Doves Cry", "Let's Go Crazy", "Kiss" and "Cream".

Wendy & Lisa (briefly known as Girl Bros.) is a music duo consisting of Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman. They began working with Prince in the early 1980s and were part of his band the Revolution, before branching out on their own and releasing their eponymous debut studio album in 1987.
Similar in scope to Prince's first compilations, The Hits 1, The Hits 2, and The Hits/The B-Sides, The Very Best of Prince comprises recordings that span from 1979 to 1991 and highlight some of the best-selling material from his years on Warner Bros. Records.
As rear guard to one of the world’s most extroverted and absorbing performers, Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman were the indispensable co-architects of Prince’s most hallowed period. Joining his band at the age of 19 when making the Dirty Mind album, Coleman lent her melodic, atmospheric keyboard to Prince’s ever-growing musical tapestry.
