Beau De Glen "Mance" Lipscomb [nb 1] (April 9, 1895 – January 30, 1976) [3] was an American blues singer, guitarist and songster. Biography. Lipscomb was born April 9, 1895, near Navasota, Texas. His father had been born into slavery in Alabama; his mother was half African American and half Native American. [4] .

Mance Lipscomb (1895–1976) considered himself to be a Texas sharecropper and songster. He was the first artist recorded by Arhoolie, and the album—fittingly titled Texas Sharecropper and Songster —resulted in invitations to music festivals and additional recordings over the remainder of his life.
