University of Lausanne. The University of Lausanne is a higher teaching and research institution composed of seven faculties with approximately 17,100 students and about 4,400 research, teaching and technical staff. Its research activities focus on three main themes: human and social sciences, life sciences and medicine, and environmental sciences.
Fundada en 1537 como una escuela de Teología, fue nombrada universidad a partir de 1890. Actualmente está compuesta por siete facultades: teología, derecho, letras, ciencias políticas y sociales, ciencias económicas y empresariales, ciencias de la tierra y del medio ambiente, y también biología y medicina.

Following the Bologna recommendations, main university studies are at two levels: first, a three-year Bachelor degree course, followed by three to four semesters leading to a Master’s degree, either by specialising in a specific domain, or by undertaking interdisciplinary studies.
