Patrick Hannan. Patrick Hannan MBE (26 September 1941 – 11 October 2009) was a Welsh political journalist, author and television and radio presenter. The son of an Irish doctor who migrated to Wales in the 1930s, he was born and raised in Aberaman, near Aberdare in South Wales.
Paddy was a gold prospector whose discovery on 17 June 1893 near Kalgoorlie, Western Australia set off a gold rush in the area and Kalgoorlie, originally called Hannan's, was born. Hannan found gold near Mount Charlotte, less than 40 kilometres from the Coolgardie Goldfields.
