Donaldson Toussaint L'Ouverture Byrd II (December 9, 1932 – February 4, 2013) was an American jazz and rhythm & blues trumpeter and vocalist. A sideman for many other jazz musicians of his generation, Byrd was one of the few hard bop musicians who successfully explored funk and soul while remaining a jazz artist.
Motor City Scene, also released as Stardust, is an album by American saxophonist Pepper Adams and trumpeter Donald Byrd, recorded in 1960 and released on the Bethlehem label as BCP 6056 featuring Byrd and Adams with Kenny Burrell, Tommy Flanagan, Paul Chambers, and Louis Hayes.

Hailing from the Detroit Jazz scene, trumpeter Donald Byrd & baritonist Pepper Adams join forces with guitarist Kenny Burrell, pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Louis Hayes (aka “Hey” Lewis) to form the all-star sextet heard on Motor City Scene (also released as Stardust).
All told, during the four-year stretch the Donald Byrd – Pepper Adams Quintet recorded ten dates - six studio albums, one sampler, and three live LPs - assuring their place as one of the great jazz groups of its time.
