  4. Four little-known pastoral cantatas by the young Handel in new and stylishly Italianate recordings. In 1706, 21-year-old Handel arrived in Italy as a prodigious celebrity, already having caught the eye and won the patronage of the Medici family in Florence.

  5. Three fine voices and an ensemble of impressive refinement create a programme of less familiar pieces composed by Handel in the first decade of the 18th century when he was resident in Italy supported by aristocratic families in Venice, Rome and Naples.

  6. On this disc, the Australian group Arcadia play five cantatas which date from 1708 to 1711, all but one written during Handel’s Italian stay. In the May of 1708 Handel travelled to Naples and during his stay there wrote the solo bass cantata Cuopre tal volt ail cielo.
