British coalminers have many stories of a superhuman worker who is known by a variety of names: Temple, Tempest, Torr, Towers and (in Wales) Isaac Lewis. He is also known as The Big Hewer and The Big Miner.
The Big Hewer (part 2) The radio ballads were the joint creation of Ewan MacColl, Charles Parker and Peggy Seeger. A radio ballad is a sound-tapestry woven of four basic elements: songs, instrumental music, sound effects and the recorded voices of those with whose lives each program deals.
