McCord grew up in Mount Laurel, New Jersey and attended St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was teammates with future fellow Buckeye Marvin Harrison Jr. He received his first college scholarship offer from Central Michigan before the start of his freshman year of high school. The Class of 2022 has been incredibly resilient over their four years at the Prep, dealing with the disruption of a global health crisis among other issues that impacted their high school years. Still, they excelled in and out of the classroom and bonded into the great Prep Class of 2022!
