The Amboy Dukes were an American rock band formed in 1964 in Chicago, Illinois, and later based in Detroit, Michigan. [1] . They are best known for their only hit single, "Journey to the Center of the Mind". [2] . The band's name comes from the title of a novel by Irving Shulman.
Farmer, a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, was perhaps best known as the composer, with Nugent, of the band’s “Journey to the Center of the Mind,” a #16 pop hit in 1968. According to an online report, Farmer, who lived alone, was a fixture in his Michigan neighborhood.
