Sammy Figueroa (born November 16, 1948, The Bronx, New York) is an American percussionist. [1] . At 18 he joined the band of bassist Bobby Valentín and also co-led the Brazilian/Latin fusion group Raíces . As of 2023, he is living in South Florida and performs with the Sammy Figueroa and His Latin Jazz Explosion band. [2] Selected discography.

Sammy Figueroa has long been regarded as one of the world’s great musicians. As one of the world’s leading percussionists he has played on countless records, providing the rhythmical framework for hundreds of hits.
Figueroa is now among the top locally based South Florida jazz musicians, a list that includes trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, multi-instrumentalist Ira Sullivan, pianist Eddie Higgins and singer-violinist Nicole Yarling. Figueroa’s first Latin Jazz Explosion CD, And Sammy Walked In, won a Grammy nomination, and The Magician could do the same.
