Wole Soyinka. Abeokuta Grammar School is a secondary school in the city of Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. It is currently located at Idi-Aba area, of Abeokuta. Often called the first grammar school in Nigeria, it is attended by students from all parts of Nigeria, the West Coast of Africa, South Africa, Europe and even Asia .
The Abeokuta Grammar School proved the most successful and the most enduring of these attempts and when it came into being in 1908, many of the students of the John Sorinolu Memorial Grammar School left to enrol in the new School. Get Started. Reverend Kuti left Abeokuta Grammar school in 1913 when he gained admission to read Arts and Theology at Fourah Bay College, Sierra Leone. He finished the programme in 1916 with an M. A. degree. He then taught briefly at C.M.S Grammar School Lagos and later transferred to Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode.
