Keyboard and sampler player Derry Brownson had formed a band called Flowerdrum but left to join bass guitarist Zac Foley, drummer Marc Decloedt, DJ Milf, and singer James Atkin as EMF. Ian Dench was the last to join, having already tasted moderate success as a guitarist for Apple Mosaic .

Hailing from the English region Forest of Dean, vocalist James Atkin, drummer Mark Decloedt, bassist Zac Foley, and keyboardist Derry Brownson met in school and played in different bands around the local music scene.
Schubert Dip is the debut album by British rock band EMF, released on Parlophone Records on 7 May 1991. [1] It features the worldwide hit single "Unbelievable" which reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. The name of the album is a pun on the name of the popular sweet sherbet dip and the 19th-century composer Franz Schubert .
25 de may. de 2024 · As frontman Mark Atkin – he of the oversized baseball cap – told FutureMusic a few years back, Unbelievable was written by the band’s guitarist, Ian Dench (who would go on to pen hits for Shakira, Beyoncé and The Prodigy, among others), and was demoed at a band meeting in keyboardist Derry Brownson’s front room.
