The House Carpenter's Daughter is an acoustic album by Natalie Merchant. It consists of both traditional songs and cover versions of contemporary folk music. It was released on August 12, 2003 via her web-site and on September 16, 2003 in stores.
In 2003, while anticipating seismic changes in the recording industry, Natalie broke her 18-year-long contract with Elektra Records and founded her own label to produce and release an independent album, The House Carpenter’s Daughter.

The album features string arrangements by Stephen Barber and was mainly recorded at Allaire Studios, a former Upstate New York summer retreat, built by an early 20th century industrialist, where Natalie teamed-up with producer T. Bone Burnett and engineer Michael Piersante, mixed by Jim Scott.
